Ottawa man facing slew of charges in relation to multiple carjackings

OTTAWA – An Ottawa man is facing several charges after a long list of alleged carjackings last week.

According to police, a man first stole a pickup truck around 9:30 a.m. Friday on Canotek Road. Then, after crashing through a fence to access the George Etienne Cartier Parkway, he forced another vehicle off the road.

That driver was then threatened before his vehicle was taken.

The man then allegedly cut off and stopped another vehicle on the parkway, unsuccessfully attempting to take it.

A short time later, the suspect travelled along Joliette Street, abandoned the stolen vehicle, and drove off in a milk truck that still had the driver inside.

The milk truck was then stopped by a construction worker, and the man allegedly attempted to steal his vehicle keys. The worker and the man scuffled before the suspect returned to the milk truck.

Police were able to stop the milk truck and arrest the man, but one officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was hit.

Several other vehicles, fences and a light standard were hit, and milk containers flew from the truck, hitting other vehicles.

Michael Williams, 32, faces multiple charges including 11 counts of failure to remain, flight from police, two counts of robbery, five counts of mischief and impaired operation by drugs.

He will appear in court Wednesday.
