By Alex Black

Crews tackled a three-alarm fire in Barrhaven Wednesday.

Just before 8:30 a.m., crews responded to a multi-unit residential building in the 600 block of Chapman Mills Drive, between Woodroffe Avenue and Longfields Drive, for reports of fire on the exterior of the building.

According to the Ottawa Fire Service, 40 people have been displaced from the 16 units and the balcony at the back of the building collapsed.

Paramedics responded to the scene, treating one resident for a minor injury and a firefighter for soft-tissue damage.

A fire investigator is looking into the cause of the blaze.
