Around-the-clock work by hydro crews has resulted in electricity being restored to the last of the homes that lost power during the storm.
Power was restored to the last 41 homes without power, near Greenbank and Hunt Club, late Wednesday.
The restoration of power was a key milestone for Hydro Ottawa's crews, who received a standing ovation at city council.
“They have literally been working around the clock since Friday evening to restore power to the hundreds of thousands who were left in the dark by the storm,” said Mayor Jim Watson.
While the tornadoes did a tremendous amount of damage to the city, the mayor isn't worried about the costs, just yet.
“We're not in the bean-counting business right now,” said Watson. “We've got to make sure that have all resources in to helping people — cleaning up the streets, securing the area — and we'll worry about the costs afterwards.”
Watson says he has directed staff to keep track of tornado-related costs so that the city can pursue assistance from other levels of government.
