Gatineau pair charged after OPP investigate eight-year-long fraudulent invoice scheme

By Mike Vlasveld

Two people from Gatineau are facing fraud-related charges after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says it investigated an elaborate fraudulent invoice scheme in the Hawkesbury area.

Officers at the Hawkesbury OPP detachment received a fraud complaint from a local company, back in July of 2016, about a scheme that it believed had been orchestrated by an employee, starting in 2009. Police say the scheme continued into 2017.

Eric Danis, 51, of Gatineau, faces the following charges:

  • Fraud over $5,000 contrary to section 380(1)
  • Knowing that a document is forged, cause any person to use, deal with or act on it as if it were genuine, contrary to section 368(1)(b)

Anya Watson, 50, of Gatineau, has been charged with:

  • Fraud over $5,000, contrary to CC section 380(1)

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L'Orignal on September 29, 2021.

The OPP says it cannot provide further comment in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the court process.
