Ottawa mayoral candidate Catherine McKenney announced on Sept. 28 that Tyler Meredith and Vicky Smallman as their campaign co-chairs.
Meredith is a key political advisor to their campaign on important files and brings more than two decades of strategic, policy and economic knowledge. His insight on fiscal and economic growth issues, along with housing and financial sector policy will help the McKenney campaign in their effort to make Ottawa the greenest, healthiest, and best connected city in Canada.
Meredith most recently served as an economic and policy advisor for leading figures in the Liberal Party of Canada such as the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, including helping lead the preparation of six federal budgets and five economic statements.
“When you think of where Ottawa will be in 25 years, it takes leadership and ambition to get there,” said Meredith. “Only one candidate knows what it takes and has a real plan. I've known Catherine for 16 years. I know the experience, integrity, passion, and ambition they'll bring as mayor to make Ottawa the best place to live. That's why I'm pleased to serve as a co-chair.”
Smallman has decades of grassroots and professional experience in community engagement, local politics, and the labour movement. Vicky brings an important lens on human rights, gender equality, policy research, and community-building to the campaign.
Smallman works as the national director for Human Rights at the Canadian Labour Congress and has been active in local community organizing and both national and community non-profits, including serving as the Board Chair of the Somerset West Community Health Centre, and on the boards of Equal Voice and Child Care Now.
“Ottawa needs an experienced, caring and principled leader who understands how the City works, ” added Smallman. “We need someone who will tackle big problems head on, work with others to find solutions, and make sure we leave no one behind. I first met Catherine when I was volunteering on a Kanata municipal campaign almost 20 years ago. I firmly believe they will be able to deliver the change we need to build a better city for all of us.”
Meredith and Smallman serve in senior advisor volunteer roles on the campaign.
“I am happy to welcome Tyler and Vicky as co-chairs.” said McKenney. “Their wide range of experience strengthens our campaign to build the healthiest, greenest, and best connected city.”
