Glengarry Memorial Hospital’s emergency department temporarily closing overnights this weekend

The emergency department at the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) in Alexandria, Ontario is closing temporarily this weekend due to staffing shortages.
The news was revealed on the hospital's website on Oct. 13.
HGMH's emergency department is closing from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16.
“Due to unplanned health human resource shortages, the emergency department at the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) will be experiencing a temporary reduction in service,” the statement said. “Our communities are reminded to call 9-1-1 if you are experiencing severe shortness of breath, chest pain, severe bleeding or periods of unconsciousness. Paramedics will remain available to the community and will re-route to the nearest available Emergency Department to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need.”
The closest emergency departments are the Cornwall Community Hospital and the Hawkesbury General Hospital.
HGMHl has closed its emergency department several times over the last few months due to staffing shortages.
