OPS preparing for several planned demonstrations, advise people of traffic delays in downtown Ottawa

By CityNews Ottawa staff

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said officers are prepping for a busy weekend with several demonstrations planned in Ottawa’s downtown core over the weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, Metcalfe Street will be closed between Queen Street and Wellington Street. Other temporary road impacts may include Wellington Street, Elgin Street, Laurier Avenue and Bank Street also may be impacted, police said in a statement posted on their website and on X.

Police said people should expect extra presence in downtown Ottawa over the weekend.

“We continue to work with our municipal and policing partners to ensure public safety,” the OPS said. “We will have resources, logistics, traffic, towing and staffing plans in place to address any scenario.”
