The Kingston Police Service (KPS) is advising residents and business owners to be on the lookout for possible counterfeit U.S. bills circulating in the community.

In a news release, Kingston police said their investigating began on Nov. 12, when someone used a counterfeit bill at a restaurant in Kingston’s west end. That person then took a taxi from the restaurant and paid the driver with another counterfeit bill, according to police. The taxi driver and an individual from the restaurant called police regarding the fake money.

On Nov. 28, police said the same person paid for merchandise from a store on Princess Street and later on that day, bought pizza, all with counterfeit bills. The pizza delivery driver called police after noticing the counterfeit money.

Police said a suspect was arrested on Nov. 30 and is facing four charges in connecting to the use of counterfeit money.

All bills used in these incidents were $20 bills, and all had the same serial number #JE62455000B.

Should anyone have any information about this counterfeit currency or have any in their possession please contact Kingston police by calling 613-549-4660.
