Patchy frost expected for Ottawa this evening

In a stark contrast to the warm summer-like weather that has characterized autumn so far, Ottawa could see its first frost of the season tonight, Environment Canada reports.

Temperatures across the region are expected to reach near freezing with Ottawa forecasted to hit a chilly two degrees, making it suitable for frost to form. This will be the first time the temperature has dropped to 2 C in 161, the fourth longest record.

“Frost may damage frost-sensitive fruit trees and vegetable plants,” Environment Canada warns. “Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas. Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.”

Temperatures are predicted to reach 19 C Sunday with a chance of thunderstorms and 17 C Monday, before cooling off to more near the seasonal average in the latter half of the week.
