Officers from the Ottawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a tow truck for safety violations on Friday.
Police say the vehicle was not following safety equipment standards and the driver was also found to be operating illegally in Ontario. The driver is facing 13 charges under the Towing and Storage Safety Enforcement Act, the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The tow truck is impounded for seven days.
This comes after police vowed to crack down on illegally operating or unsafe tow truck drivers and companies in the east region.
Several weeks ago another OPP officer pulled over a tow truck due to “multiple violations.”
The incident happened on Jan. 8 and officials from the Ottawa detachment laid multiple charges after a traffic stop was conducted.
The company, Queensway Towing, faces offences under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
Ottawa police are also cracking down on tow trucks with an enforcement blitz at the beginning of December that saw over a dozen charges to five truck drivers and 10 companies.
