Charges laid after person shoots vehicle due to car alarm going off

A Whitewater Region resident is facing charges after they shot an unoccupied vehicle due to the car alarm going off.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons call after 911 reports said they heard a car alarm and gun shots on Feb. 12. Police said they were called at 11:45 p.m. and an investigation found the car alarm had been going off for “an extended period of time.”

There was no one inside the vehicle when the person shot at it, but the car did sustain “significant damage.”

As a result a 49-year-old from the region was arrested without incident and three long guns were taken.

The accused faces:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Mischief over $5,000

They were released and scheduled to appear in a Pembroke court.
