Black smoke seen in upstairs Barrhaven bedroom

Crews were called to a community in Barrhaven this morning after reports of smoke coming from an upstairs window.
Firefighters were on scene at 9:11 a.m. on Monday in the 0-100 block of Tedwyn Drive. Calls were coming for a duplex where smoke was seen coming from a bedroom window. Crews confirmed “lots of smoke” when they entered the home.
Black smoke visible from the chimney area prompted firefighters to declare a working fire at 9:16 a.m. for additional teams. One crew searched the home while another addressed the fire.
By 10:11 a.m., just an hour after the call, firefighters declared the scene under control. They used fans to ventilate the smoke out of the home and victim services was sent to the scene.
