20 charges laid in OPP snowmobile patrol over the weekend

Throughout the winter months, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been proactive in keeping snow trails safe for people.

Over March 8 and 9, police were out patrolling trails in the Ottawa Valley with the east region snow vehicle, all terrain and vessel enforcement/education teams.

Officers said they interacted with more than 60 snowmobile operators and laid 20 charges under the Motorized Snowmobile Act. Some charges included no current validation tag and no trail permit, OPP told CityNews in an email.

Police also noted there were five other charges under other provincial statues.

“The OPP encourages snowmobilers to adhere to open OFSC trails, as they are maintained throughout the season and remain the safest terrain to ride on,” a press release notes.
