Police investigating after dead student found in river by Bayshore park

Ottawa police are investigating after a woman was found dead in the Ottawa River on Sunday.

Officials said in a brief post on X, that they received a report for a dead person near Dick Bell Park on Carling Avenue in the city’s west end.

They confirmed the person is a woman in her 20s. The circumstances around her death are under investigation.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa confirmed to CityNews that the woman is a student from India.

“We are in close contact with the bereaved kin and local community associations to provide all possible assistance,” a spokesperson said. “The welfare, security and safety of Indian nationals in Canada is High Commission’s utmost priority always.”
