Vehicle recovered in Ottawa after being stolen over 400 km away

A teenager from outside the region was stopped after an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer scanned the vehicle’s plate.

It happened on Wednesday morning on Highway 417 near Rochester Street in Ottawa. The cruiser’s Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) software scanned the vehicle and it came up as stolen, from Waterloo Region. The vehicle was stolen two days ago, police said.

Tysson Thibeault, a 19-year-old from Quebec, is facing charges of theft, theft over $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods.

He is set to appear in an Ottawa court room at a later date.
