Man deemed a ‘public safety risk’ released in Carleton Place, police warn

Police are warning the public that an accused man is a “safety risk” after he was released in Carleton Place following an appearance in court.

Officials said that they are releasing the name, description and photo of Isaac Sebastien Dion, 24, out of an abundance of caution.

Lanark Ontario Provincial Police said officers were made aware of a person making threats toward children on Feb. 14. While no specific children were targeted, the investigation let police to determined that the threats were directed toward children aged two and three across Lanark County.

The following day, on Feb. 15, Dion was charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Make, print, publish or possess child pornography for the purpose of publication
  • Access child pornography

He was remanded into custody after a bail hearing. On May 21, he was released after appearing before the Superior Court of Justice in Perth.

Police are asking the public that if they see Dion near a location of young children they should call 911 immediately.

“The OPP wants to assure everyone that public safety is paramount, and all threats are taken seriously,” officials said.
