Body found in Ottawa River identified as police investigate homicide

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a homicide after identifying the body pulled from the Ottawa River near Clarence-Rockland last week.

According to police, the person is identified as Robert Prevost, 63, who was reported missing in early March, but had not been seen since early February. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., on May 17, officers responded to reports of a body located in the water, offshore from the Dallaire Street area. A postmortem led police to identify the remains of Prevost and launch a probe into his death.

In early April, officials said they believed Prevost’s disappearance could have involved foul play. He was last seen at his home on Laurier Street.

The Russell County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation after assistance was provided by forensic identification services and several other provincial police specialized units.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact the Russell County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
