Several drivers are facing serious speed charges in Ottawa after police clocked them going well above the speed limit.
On May 30, officers were stationed in the Greenbank Road and Strandherd Drive area in Barrhaven for their latest Residents Matter traffic enforcement crackdown. These have been ongoing in the last several months as police attempt to curb the number of risky drivers in community areas in the city.
The latest took place between 3:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. Officials said they laid 11 provincial offences notices and several summons.
Some of the notable stops included a 22-year-old travelling at 137 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on Limebank Road near Balmoral Drive. He was charged with stunt driving, the second in three years, officers noted, and an obstructed plate.
A 21-year-old was stopped on Strandherd Drive going 137 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. He was charged with stunt driving, unnecessary noise, no muffler, and failure to surrender insurance.
Police shared that a 54-year-old man was caught in an 80 km/h zone going 142 km/h, and was charged with stunt driving on Greenbank Road near Barnsdale Road.
