Massive drug bust in Pembroke leads to 23 people charged

Police laid dozens of charges in a large drug trafficking investigation in the Ottawa Valley after complaints from people in the community.

Officials said that nearly two dozen people were arrested in Pembroke after two search warrants were executed in the city, which led to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) finding guns, drugs and cash.

“As a result of ongoing complaints received by the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP, multiple arrest warrants and search warrants were executed,” Stephan Neufeld, Acting East Region OPP Superintendent, said. “The reasons for these warrants and charges were a result of increased complaints about drug trafficking and drug use within the City of Pembroke.”

They said the investigation has been ongoing for five months and was supported by other OPP detachments. It focused on trafficking in Pembroke and resulted in 23 people charged.

Some of the items found in the searches include:

  • 400 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • 300 grams of suspected cocaine
  • Over 120 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • Over 70 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
  • Over 650 suspected hydromorphone tablets
  • Loaded handgun
  • Full high-capacity magazine
  • Sawed-off shotgun
  • Ammunition
  • Replica firearm
  • Over $13,000 in currency
  • 2023 SUV
  • Cell phones

The youngest person charged in the case is a 16-year-old male. He is facing 18 charges, including possession of cocaine, fentanyl, property obtained by crime, breach of firearm regulations and more.

Another young person was charged with eight offences. The man is a 17-year-old and is from Scarborough.

Two people are from the nation’s capital.

Maria MacDonald, 45, and Bhishuk Robin Roy, 31, both of Ottawa are facing five and nine charges each.
