Man charged after ‘heated dispute’ and further threats while at hospital

Police were called to a small Ontario town in Lanark County for a disturbance that led to several charges for a man.

Officers were called on May 31 around 8:00 p.m. to a home in Portland, a community along Highway 15 and Big Rideau Lake. There, an officer deployed their taser (also known as a Conducted Energy Weapon) and arrested the individual at the scene.

He was taken to hospital where, police say, further threats were made against medical staff.

Through the investigation, Christopher Church, 45, of Portland, was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief – destroy or damage property
  • Mischief – obstruct, interrupt or interfere
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
