Two teens facing charges after cocaine, gun found by police

The Vanier/ Overbrook Neighbourhood Resource Team stopped a vehicle on June 9 and found drugs and a firearm.

The vehicle was stopped on June 9 in the area of McArthur Avenue and Rue de L’Eglise. The vehicle was searched under the Cannabis Control Act officers found a gun.

The two people inside, males aged 16 and 17, were arrested. Then officers found a significant quantity of crack cocaine on one of the suspects.

Neither the accused can be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). Both teens received numerous firearm and drug-related charges, including failing to comply with previously imposed YCJA conditions.

Just last week, Ottawa police conducted a similar enforcement blitz, this time in Barrhaven, laying charges against two young people.

Some of the notable stops included a 22-year-old travelling at 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Limebank Road near Balmoral Drive. He was charged with stunt driving, the second in three years, officers noted, and an obstructed plate.

A 21-year-old was stopped on Strandherd Drive going 137 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. He was charged with stunt driving, unnecessary noise, no muffler, and failure to surrender insurance.
