Young child seriously injured in suspected animal attack

A young child was seriously injured in what police are saying is a suspected animal attack in a small rural town in the Ottawa Valley.

Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment were called to Quadeville, Ont., north of Calabogie. They arrived around 12:30 a.m. on June 24 and found the child suffering from serious injuries on Quadeville Road.

The child was sent to hospital and later relocated to a regional trauma centre, where they are recovering from the injuries.

Police say they suspect it was an animal attack, but further testing and analysis are needed to determine. Officers are working with the Ministry of Natural Resources on the investigation.

While more needs to be done, police are urging parents in the area to keep their small children indoors or under close supervision.

Anyone with more information or relevant doorbell or surveillance video that could help investigators, should call the UOV OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
