Impaired driving charges laid following vehicle race on Hwy 417

One man has been charged with multiple impaired driving-related charges after he crashed his car while racing another vehicle.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday. Ottawa OPP received a call about a vehicle that had crashed on Hwy 417 near Innes Road.

The driver, a 28-year-old male, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He also registered more than twice the legal limit.

As a result, the driver has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs;
  • Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus);
  • Dangerous Operation;
  • Race a Motor Vehicle; and
  • Driver – Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt.

The driver is now facing a 90 day license suspension for impaired driving and an additional 30 day suspension for stunt driving.
