Driver registered twice the legal limit of alcohol in Hwy. 416 rollover crash

Provincial police laid several charges against a person after the vehicle they were driving rolled over on an Ottawa highway.

Officers said they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 416 near Hunt Club Road just after 1:00 a.m. over the weekend. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a post on X that officers suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

The driver was tested and registered twice the legal limit, officials said.

As a result, Andrew Boschetti, 37, is facing several charges including:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused from Prescott, Ont., had his licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for a week. He is set to appear in an Ottawa court at a later date.

In a photo shared by police, the vehicle can be seen resting on its hood, with extensive damage to the body. Officers did say that the driver was not injured in the crash.

Impaired driving is a concern: OPP

Police are concerned about how many people are impaired and get behind the wheel in the eastern part of Ontario.

Officials said that there has been a slight decrease in the number of impaired drivers in the region over the last year. According to OPP, there have been 575 impaired driving incidents in the first half of this year, which is down from the same period in 2024.

“One impaired driver is one too many. We know impaired driving can have a deadly impact, affecting not only that driver, but potentially others on the roads and highways, innocent families,” Inspector Josh Kingsley, OPP East Region Traffic & Marine Manager, said.

There have been 22 fatal crashes on roadways around the nation’s capital, resulting in 25 people killed. In those statistics, OPP share that impaired driving played a role in five of those deaths.
