Stittsville man charged in crash that sent two children to hospital

An Ottawa man is facing a laundry list of charges after a serious collision west of the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

It happened around 4:00 p.m. on Highway 15, just south of Carleton Place. Just before the crash, Ontario Provincial Police and Ottawa police received “numerous” traffic complaints about the vehicle involved.

Emergency responders brought both the drivers and two children to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It prompted the stretch of highway to be closed for over an hour.

During the investigation, one of the drivers was arrested and sent to hospital for testing.

As a result, Brennan Boyd, 40, is facing charges of:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with breath demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Dangerous operation
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
  • Red light – fail to stop
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor in open baggage

The accused, from Stittsville, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Perth court Sept. 22.

Boyd’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
