Manhunt in Ottawa Valley after serious assault in Renfrew motel

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking the public to be cautious after a widespread manhunt in Renfrew did not uncover the man they are looking for.

Officials said that on Aug. 28, a woman went to a local hospital and reported she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street. Police were led to believe that the man, who she knows, had a handgun.

This prompted a widespread search by OPP, who were told that the man had left the motel but was seen walking in the town. Officers saw him but he evaded police by going onto the Algonquin Trail. More police descended on the area, including a canine team, to expand the search.

Police issued a shelter in place for the north end of Renfrew around 9:00 p.m. that night out of caution.

The “extensive” search continued throughout the night but officials determined the man had left the area. The shelter in place was lifted around 1:00 a.m.

The man is described as Black, 5’9″ to 6’0″ tall and has hair on the top of his head with both sides shaved. He has a goatee and a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow and another tattoo under his left eye.

He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket and possibly black shorts and a blue shirt.

OPP is asking the public to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see him. Do not approach. This male is urged to contact the Renfrew OPP to turn himself in.
