IPV and child abuse investigation leads to attempted murder charge

A 26-year-old is facing a list of charges, including attempt to commit murder on a child, following an investigation by Leeds County OPP.

On Friday morning, officers began an investigation into a case of intimate partner violence and child abuse in Rideau Lakes, a community just north of Kingston.

In addition to attempted murder, the suspect is also facing the following 13 charges:

  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age cause bodily harm;
  • Sexual interference;
  • Two counts of forcible confinement;
  • Two counts of assault with a weapon;
  • Two counts of assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle;
  • Two counts of assault;
  • Two counts of uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm; and
  • Intimidation – use or threatens use of violence.

The accused remains in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date.
