Provincial police had to close two lanes westbound on Highway 417 for several hours after an oil spill.
The incident was reported to officers just before 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. As a result of the oil spill along the highway, officials had to close lanes near Bronson Avenue, sending traffic through the area crawling.
“This is causing significant delays. We are waiting on the roads department to come clean up the spill,” Constable Michael Fathi, with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), said in a video posted to social media.
He said a few bottles of oil were spilled across the road, “making it very dangerous for traffic to drive through.”
In an update, police said they have obtained footage from the Ministry of Transportation that showed an SUV with its trunk open and pulled over at the same time as the spill.
Officials are asking anyone who saw the vehicle to contact police with information.
