Sunday could reach 30 C, slashing heat records

Sunday could break a decades-old heat record in Ottawa.

According to Environment Canada’s almanac, Oct. 5, 1941 reached a high of 27.2 C.

The weather agency is predicting that temperatures on Sunday could reach 30 C with a stifling humidex making it feel like 34.

That is almost double the average maximum temperature for this time of year. Based on historical data, this day typically hovers around 15 C.

The highest temperature recorded for Oct. 4 is 27.7 C, which was reached in 2005. Saturday in Ottawa, temperatures were just shy of this high, reaching 27.1 C.

Above seasonal temperatures are expected to remain through Monday before rain Tuesday cools things off.

By Wednesday the temperature is expected to sit around 14 C.
