G2 driver loses control of salt truck on Highway 417

On Monday’s messy morning commute, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two incidents where drivers were charged.

The first happened on Highway 417, where a G2 driver of a salt truck lost control. Police said the vehicle was in the middle lane before it rolled and dumped salt all over the other lanes. The young driver was charged with careless driving, a $490 fine with three demerit points.

“Novice drivers need to be extra careful during winter driving due to a lack of experience,” police said in a release.

The second incident, a G2 driver speeding excessively, was seen by officers weaving “dangerously” in and out of traffic on the highway.

They were charged criminally with dangerous operation, forcing their parents to come pick them up.
