6 sent to hospital after multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 7 near Perth

A large investigation is underway after half a dozen people were sent to hospital after several vehicles collided on Highway 7.

The crash occurred on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Lanark detachment were dispatched to the highway in Innisville, a small community between Carleton Place and Perth, for a crash involving five vehicles.

Once there, they found a total of six people injured, ranging in age from 17-78.

Three people were sent to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, one of whom with conditions that are possibly life-threatening, the press release from OPP reads. The person in serious condition is one of the seniors, OPP Constable Corey Noonan told CityNews in an interview.

The other three people were treated in hospital and are expected to be released on Monday. Individuals had “varying degrees of injuries,” police explained.

Highway 7 remained closed until 4:00 a.m. on Monday while the investigation continued.

Noonan added that weather conditions were fair that day, although it was a bit foggy around dusk. He said that the collision “chain of events” started with one vehicle waiting to turn into the Ultramar Gas Station.

“We encourage everyone to slow down,” Bill Dickson, OPP media relations officer, told CityNews. “There is a reduced speed limit through that area. We encourage everyone to slow down when coming off or onto the roadway.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have relevant dashcam video, and has not yet spoken with police, should contact the Lanark County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251583748.
