Smart car driver tries to transport big ladder through Carleton Place

A driver is facing a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for attempting to transport an extremely large ladder in a very small vehicle.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a social media post that on Nov. 24, an officer stopped a Smart car on County Road 29 and McNeely Avenue in Carleton Place. Police said in the morning they saw a ladder hanging out of the vehicle’s trunk and “encroaching onto the driver’s space.”

As a result, the driver was issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for having an insecure load.

“If you are transporting a ladder (or anything else large), a very small car is not the right choice,” officials said.

The ladder was encroaching on the driver’s space and was loosely secured. (OPP)
