3 youths charged in hate-motivated assault at Billings Bridge

Police were called to an OC Transpo station for reports a group of youths were assaulting victims.

It happened on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., the beginning of the evening commute. Officers were called for an hate-motivated assault at Billings Bridge Station. There, they found three youths directing slurs at victims.

“The verbal harassment escalated into a physical assault, during which two conducted energy weapons were produced but not deployed,” the police release said.

An independent person from the groups intervened to help the victims and was also threatened with the weapon.

The three youths were arrested by officers and face multiple charges related to threats, assaults and weapons, police said.

They will not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“The Ottawa Police Service thanks the witness who stepped in to assist and reminds residents to report hate-motivated incidents to police,” the release reads.
