G2 driver criminally charged after racing other vehicle, weaving in traffic

One motorist is facing a serious charge of dangerous operation after police said they were racing another vehicle and weaving through traffic.

Ontario Provincial Police were on Highway 417 around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One officer saw a motorist racing down the highway, weaving “dangerously” through vehicles. A speed gun from the officer showed the vehicle was clocked travelling 158 km/h.

The 21-year-old driver in the red vehicle was also using the high-occupancy vehicle lane when they were alone.

When stopped, police laid a criminal charge of dangerous operation, which means the young person faces the possibility of a criminal record along with a one-year driving suspension and a minimum $2,000 fine.

They also received a fine for improper use of the HOV lane, a 30-day driving suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound.

The lone officer on the scene at the time could only catch one of the suspects.
