The total number of those charged with impaired driving in the first three weeks of the OPP’s Festive RIDE continues to rise, as does the number of warnings issued.
OPP say 67 drivers have been arrested and charged since the campaign across the east region — stretching from Quinte West to the Quebec boundary and north to the Ottawa Valley — began on Nov. 20.
Approximately half of those drivers (34) were charged during the first week of the campaign. Numbers have since trickled down.
Last week 18 drivers were arrested and charged for driving under the influence. Those drivers now face a 90 say licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
Fifteen additional drivers are facing three-day licence suspensions for registering a warn on a roadside screening device. That number is up from nine drivers the previous week.
The Festive RIDE campaign runs through to Jan. 1 to crack down on impaired driving, and issue that is on the rise in the region.
OPP say ride checks can occur seven days a week, day or night, on any type of roadway.
