A Gatineau man is facing impaired driving and drug trafficking charges following a single-vehicle collision.
It happened shortly after midnight on Dec. 27 when Ottawa OPP responded to reports of a vehicle in the ditch along Highway 417 near March Road.
OPP say the responding officers suspected the driver was impaired and a roadside screening device was used. The driver was then taken to the detachment for further testing.
A search of the vehicle turned up approximately 7 kg of cannabis, along with drug paraphernalia, cash and trafficking-related items. Officers say the seizure is estimated at $60,000.
As a result, a 43-year-old Gatineau male has been charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
- Operation while impaired – BAC 80 plus;
- Possession for the purpose of distributing;
- Possession over 30 g dried cannabis in a public place; and
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He also faces a 90 licence suspension under provincial impaired driving laws and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
