Passenger trapped after sedan collides with salt truck

Ottawa firefighters extricated a trapped passenger after a sedan collided with a salt truck on the the westbound off-ramp of Highway 417 at Boundary Road.

Firefighters responded to reports of the collision shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 16.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the collision had caused significant damage to the passenger side of the sedan.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle, but four passengers were inside.

After a short time, firefighters say three passengers were able to exit the vehicle on their own. One passenger remained trapped in the back seat.

Responders stabilized the vehicle and charged a hose line as a precaution.

Firefighters removed the driver’s side rear door to create access. The trapped occupant was safely extricated at 12:03 p.m.

Firefighters left the scene in control of Ottawa Police.
