Community complaints prompt drug investigation, arrest

One man has been arrested after community complaints spark a drug investigation.

The Ottawa Police Service says its Central Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) received complaints in November and December 2025 from a business in the ByWard Market and requests for assistance in combatting drug dealing on its property.

On Jan. 9, 2026, officers set up surveillance in the area and say a man was observed selling drugs.

Officer approached and arrested a man in his 40s.

During a search, officers say they found crack cocaine packaged for sale, along with Canadian currency. As a result, the man was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police are asking anyone who noticed suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to report it to police. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
