Person trapped in vehicle wreck after downtown Ottawa crash

Firefighters were called to an intersection in the nation’s capital for a person trapped after a two-vehicle collision on Friday morning.

Crews said they were brought to the scene of Bay and Albert streets by Ottawa police, who confirmed to dispatch that one of the people involved could not get out of the wreckage.

Firefighters were there after 9:20 a.m. and found one vehicle had two people inside and the passenger could not escape. The second vehicle had one driver who was not trapped.

Teams stabilized the vehicle and began the extrication process using specialized hydraulic tools. They had to remove the front and rear passenger-side doors to get the person out.

They were given to Ottawa paramedics and crews cleared the area by 9:50 a.m.

Ottawa Paramedics told CityNews they assessed, treated and transported an adult male to hospital in serious but stable condition.
