6 years later, Ottawa man recovers stolen $4.5K watch

A $4,500 watch is not something most people can simply replace. That was the case for Chavi Walsh who scoured pawn shops for over six years after his Omega wristwatch was stolen.

On the morning of June 28, 2019, Walsh woke to find his vehicles had been broken into right in his driveway. His watch was among the items stolen.

He began to monitor advertisements from local pawn shops, hoping the watch would resurface.

When he didn’t see anything, he continued to persist. Whatever gut feeling told him to keep looking was correct.

On Feb. 16, 2026, over six years later, Walsh saw an Omega watch listed for sale at Crown Pawn Boutique on Rideau Street that he believed could be his. He then contacted police to investigate.

A police constable contacted the owner of the shop and arranged a meeting with Walsh.

Using Walsh’s original receipt and the watch’s serial number, police confirmed the watch at the shop was the same one stolen from Walsh’s car in 2019.
