Provincial police laid a fine to a driver after catching them on camera throwing a bag of trash out the window.
Officers said they were driving on Highway 417 near St. Laurent when they saw a person in a white SUV throw garbage onto the side of the roadway. Police said they swiftly stopped the driver and gave him a $125 fine for littering.
“What he had failed to notice was the fully marked OPP cruiser behind him and an unmarked cruiser beside him,” police said in a release.
The Ontario government’s website notes that litter from streets can go into municipal waterways and break down into microplastics, harming wildlife and contaminating drinking water.
Police said that littering not only harms the look of communities “it is also illegal.”
