Partnership with police, community leads to 10 people charged

Over a dozen charges were laid after Ottawa police partnered with the community to conduct a proactive enforcement along Bank Street.

Officers were in Centretown between Gladstone Avenue and Catherine Street in response to ongoing concerns from the public about safety, “disorder” and criminal activity.

The outreach saw police partner with multiple units within the agency and the community. Its goal was to focus on the disruptions involving a group of people, helping vulnerable people who live in the area and safety for residents and businesses.

Through the enforcement, police said they “engaged directly with community members” and laid charges when needed.

As a result, 10 people are facing 14 criminal and two provincial charges.

“The initiative also connected individuals to support services through partner agencies, reinforcing the OPS commitment to a balanced approach that combines enforcement with social supports,” the press release reads.

Officers said they will continue to monitor the corridor on Bank Street and support long-term community wellbeing.
