Tactical unit executes two search warrants in drug trafficking investigation

Ottawa police launched an investigation in early March following tips of drug trafficking.

In a press release, officials said they heard reports of a man believed to be trafficking controlled substances around the nation’s capital. On April 10, officers attended two homes in the city with the assistance of the tactical unit and neighbourhood resource teams.

Police searched the 800 block of Walkley Road in Riverside Park South and the 100 block of Silvermoon Crescent in Avalon. They took two people into custody who were charged with several drug and weapon offences.

Police seized a shotgun, ammunition, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in the raids.

They are asking for anyone with information to contact the guns and gangs unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5050.

This comes days after police released information about a separate drug case where officers seized over 1,000 pills. It also came from public reports from community members.

Police recently laid over a dozen charges after they partnered with the community for proactive enforcement along Bank Street.

Officers were in Centretown between Gladstone Avenue and Catherine Street in response to ongoing concerns from the public about safety, “disorder” and criminal activity.

The outreach saw police partner with multiple units within the agency and the community. Its goal was to focus on the disruptions involving a group of people, helping vulnerable people who live in the area and safety for residents and businesses.
