Suspicious death in Perth park deemed a homicide

A person found earlier this week in a Lanark County park in critical condition is being investigated as a homicide by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Officers said in a press release that they were called Sunday around 3:15 p.m. in Perth, Ont., where they found a person with life-threatening injuries. They were found in Last Dual Park along the river.

Police said the person was taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. They are not releasing the person’s identity until next of kin is notified.

Officials initially launched the investigation as a suspicious death, but later ruled it as a homicide. They do believe the incident was targeted, with no evidence of a broader threat to the community. Since, the park has reopened and there is no longer a police presence in the area.

The investigation by the Lanark County OPP is being assisted by the chief coroner officer and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation should contact the Lanark County OPP.
