12-year-old in serious condition after dirt bike, SUV collide

Officials are investigating a serious crash that sent a 12-year-old to CHEO by air ambulance on Monday.
Provincial police said that around 5:00 p.m., a youth was crossing Highway 17 on a dirt bike while on the Algonquin Trail. They collided with a westbound SUV. Police said the youth was travelling with a parent on a separate dirt bike at the time of the incident.
The 12-year-old was sent to hospital via an ambulance before being air lifted to Ottawa. The driver and passenger in the SUV were not injured.
Officials said the youth’s injuries have been deemed serious but non-life-threatening.
Highway 17, north of Arnprior, was shut down for several hours as a result of the incident.
Police are investigating and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
