Stolen vehicles from Toronto tracked to Ottawa; 2 people on the run

Three vehicles abandoned in west Ottawa have Ontario Provincial Police linking the case to thefts from Toronto.

According to officials, police launched the investigation early Monday morning after three stolen vehicles were reported in Toronto. Officers linked the incidents to abandoned vehicles found in Ashton.

In an email, police confirmed one of the SUVs found was first detected by an automated licence‑plate recognition (ALPR). During that, police attempted to stop the vehicle where they found the other SUVs abandoned.

Ottawa police assisted OPP in finding the drivers.

Police say that the drivers left the scene before anyone arrived, but they have arrested one person in connection.

Teams from the K9 division, aviation unit and emergency response team canvassed the area where the vehicles were found but did not find anyone.

Two more suspects are outstanding, and officials are hoping that members of the public can keep an eye out.
