Driver ‘narrowly’ misses vehicle after driving wrong way on Hwy. 417

Provincial police in the nation’s capital said they caught two older adults driving the wrong way on a highway.

The first incident happened just before 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle was reported to police after other drivers saw it on Highway 416 and 417.

Officials said the vehicle was found near Pinecrest Road, where it “narrowly” avoided a head-on crash.

The 90-year-old driver from Kanata was suspended, officials said.

The second incident happened in the city’s east end near Anderson Road. At the time, police said Highway 417 was shut down due to a vehicle on fire in an eastbound lane.

“This driver became impatient and decided to drive eastbound in the westbound lanes,” officials said in a release.

Police stopped the vehicle and charged a 75-year-old man with careless driving, which comes with a $490 fine and six demerit points.
