Crews battle heavy smoke and flames in Kinburn house blaze

Firefighters were dispatched within two minutes and arrived to find a home in Ottawa’s west end ablaze.

Heavy smoke and flames were pouring out of the two-storey home in the Kinburn community when they got there at 5:44 p.m. on Monday. Multiple people called emergency responders after they saw fire coming from the attached garage in the 1800 block of Diamondview Road.

Quickly, fire officials got to work trying to douse the flames. When they arrived, the house was fully involved, meaning it had spread quickly to multiple areas. The people who lived at the home met firefighters outside and said everyone, including pets, were safely out.

Bringing a hose line towards the structure, crews also needed to bring in water from an outside source since there are no hydrants in this part of the city.

Propane tanks beside the home created a hazard for the team as they sprayed water on the building from the sides and the air.

Just before 7:00 p.m. the fire was under control.

Victim services were dispatched to the scene and a fire investigator is looking into the cause of the blaze.
