Charges laid after police officer struck by vehicle in Ottawa Valley

Provincial police laid charges against a driver in Pembroke after a vehicle hit an officer while turning after a traffic stop.
In a release, police said that officers were conducting traffic control in Pembroke around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. While an officer was directing traffic at the intersection of Drive-In Road and Pembroke Street East due to a lane closure after a crash.
A vehicle was making a left turn when it struck the officer. Police said they were not injured.
An 80-year-old resident from Pembroke is facing a charge of careless driving from the incident.
“The OPP reminds motorists to proceed with caution when approaching road closures, construction zones, emergency scenes, or roadside work areas,” they note. “Drivers should slow down, remain alert, follow traffic control directions, and be prepared for changing traffic patterns.”
