Humid, rainy week ahead for Ottawa and surrounding region

After a warm, dry weekend that saw brief thunderstorms on Sunday, the new week is set to bring muggy conditions and a high risk of thunderstorms to the Ottawa area.
Environment Canada projects Monday will see a rapid temperature rise from Sunday, which is likely to lead to thunderstorms throughout the early parts of the week. 28 degrees will be the high for Monday, but muggy conditions will have the humidex at 36 through parts of the afternoon. Monday afternoon will see a chance of showers that may continue as far into the week as Thursday. The chance will begin at 30 percent and rise to 70 percent by Tuesday, before it slowly drops to a chance of just 30 percent by Thursday.
The temperature will drop to 18 degrees overnight from Monday into Tuesday, then it will rise to a more moderate high of 24 on Tuesday afternoon. Windy conditions are anticipated through the afternoon, up to 50 km/h speeds potentially by late Tuesday. Humid conditions are expected once again; the 24-degree high will feel like 32 with the humidex. Temperatures will drop as low as 16 into Wednesday.

Wednesday is expected to be more of the same, with a chance of showers from Tuesday night all the way through Wednesday. The projected high will be 24 once again.
Environment Canada projects a UV index of 8 on Monday, which is considered “very high”.
Environment Canada’s air quality index says as of 6:00 a.m. that a slight bump in air quality risk is expected Monday due to the northwestern Ontario wildfires, but the risk will return to a “low” rating of 2 by Monday night.
